What is Exercise Physiology? What does an Exercise Physiologist do?
Exercise physiology is the clinical use of exercise to help prevent, manage or treat chronic health conditions, injury, and pain. An Exercise Physiologist (EP) is a university-qualified allied health professional who specialises in safe, evidence-based movement tailored to your unique physical and medical needs.
- Like Physiotherapists, we have a university qualification and advanced training in rehabilitation, chronic disease management, and exercise prescription for complex health conditions.
- Unlike physiotherapists, we do not diagnose or provide any hands on therapy such as massage, acupuncture or dry needling.
Our EPs use exercise as medicine—helping you move better, feel stronger, and take control of your health. Exercise physiologists can provide services under many compensable schemes including Medicare, Department of Veteran Affairs, Workers Compensation and the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

Our accredited exercise physiologists
Why Work with an Accredited Exercise Physiologist?
They provide individualised exercise programs based on your medical history, condition, and goals—not just general fitness. Unlike personal trainers, EPs have university qualifications and are trained to work with complex conditions such as chronic pain, heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.
They are recognised providers under Medicare, DVA, WorkCover, and private health—offering clinical, evidence-based care. EPs are part of the broader allied health team and work collaboratively with your GP, physio, and other specialists.
Whether you're managing a chronic condition or just want expert guidance you can trust, exercise physiology in Sydney offers a long-term, results-driven solution.
What to expect with our Exercise Physiologist appointments?
Your Exercise Physiologist will conduct a range of baseline physical assessments, which may include flexibility, mobility, strength, and functional movement tests. If you're managing an injury or specific condition, targeted assessments will also be completed to ensure we tailor your care appropriately.Using this clinical data, your EP will create a personalised exercise management plan—designed to support your long-term health, wellbeing, and performance.
At The Active Studio, we believe that exercise is not a one-size-fits-all solution—and neither is your long-term care. Your ongoing management plan is discussed with your exercise physiologist to determine the most suitable plan to meet your goals. Various options include:
